Typography School

I thought this was a fun video that contrasts old school typography with type created with the computer. Even though I’m a computer guy I lean towards the old school view. There is just something about type created using a typesetter and press that adds more character than most computer generated type.

Small Update

I finally figured out how to put the link back to vectorgeek from my gallery2 page. Instead of some complex coding I found it right in the theme editor..duh. I also gussied up the header graphic a bit. I love the ease of WordPress and the Gallery2 interface is wonderful. I’ve taken a small break to clear my head on the currency art I’m doing. I’ve gone through so many iterations it’s making me dizzy. I’ll eventually post the completed piece but I’ll take my sweet time and do it right.

Added “Work in Progress” (WIP) album

I just added a work in progress album for showcasing the stuff I’m currently working on. Currently I have a screenshot of the second part of my George Bush Novelty currency project. The scroll work took a lot longer than I thought it would. It was just painstaking work. I thought I could build some custom brushes to make the job easier but I couldn’t get them to look right. In the end I just grunted it out with the pen tool and a few custom brushes for the leaf veins.

Now I’m working on a couple different concepts for the inset art. I’m waiting till I purchase the Cutline plugin for photoshop so I can give some of my graphics the engraved look. I was using a demo from Panopticum but it didn’t work exactly the way I wanted it to. I’m now looking at buying Cutline from Andromeda. This looks exactly like what I need for this project. Most the work will still be done in Illustrator though. I do rasterize some of the art and apply affects in Photoshop and then save it out as transparent pgn files for placement into Illustrator. So far I’m really happy with the way it’s looking. After I’m done I plan on combining both pieces into one piece of art for a final presentation.

Oh, while you are here, check out the blog roll for some fantastic artists. I really like Brian Denham’s vector tutorials. He is a genius with the pencil tool. Check out this awesome video of him drawing.

Art Gallery

The gallery is up and I’ve pretty much added most of my portfolio of art. I still have to tweak the man page and will be adding new art soon. Stay tuned!

My New Site

Hello there! I’m just getting things setup here with help from my pal Judd. I’m trying to integrate my gallery with my WordPress site. Hopefully I’ll have all my artwork uploaded and catagorized soon.
